If you enjoy walking in France, the limestone massif of the Vercors is a real paradise, with large open valleys between forests and mountain ridges.

Day 1 Arrive Lans en Vercors
Day 2 Lans en Vercors to Autrans ~ 5h30m
Day 3 Autrans Circular Walk ~ 6h
Day 4 Autrans to Bois Barbu ~ 5h30m
Day 5 Bois Barbu Circular Walk ~ 5h30m
Day 6 Villard de Lans to Lans en Vercors ~ 5h

The numerous paths give superb views across the region and beyond. The varied scenery comprises limestone walls on a grand scale, deep and mysterious gorges, open alpine-like meadows, forests and mountain tops. Pretty villages abound in the area and the route takes you through an interesting mix of all of these.
Grade: The walking is moderate with some long days so you should be reasonably fit.
Train via Paris to Grenoble or fly to Chambery, Lyon or Geneva then train to Grenoble. From Grenoble by bus or taxi to Lans en Vercors.
Day 2 Lans en Vercors to Autrans.
You climb up to and follow one of the ridges of the northern Vercors which gives superb views into the Alps even to Mont Blanc. The descent to Autrans is via the Pas de Bellecombe. ~ 5h30m
Day 3 Autrans Circular Walk.
A second night in Autrans gives you the chance to walk up to the Signal de Nave at 1500m. There are panoramic views over the Isere Valley, the Chartreuse mountains and the Massif Central. You return by way of the clifftops at the northern end of The Vercors. ~ 6h
Day 4 Autrans to Bois Barbu.
Today's route takes you via Villard de Lans through the hills and forests of Claret and you cross the Col de la Croix Chabaud. ~ 5h30m
Day 5 Bois Barbu Circular Walk.
The suggested walk for today takes you to the deserted village of Valchevriere and the meadows of Herbouilly. ~ 5h30m
Day 6 Villard de Lans to Lans en Vercors.
A short transfer from Bois Barbu takes you to the other side of Villard de Lans from where you walk over the Col Vert to the Pic St Michel. There are good views over the Isere Valley, the peaks of The Vercors and to the high Alps. You descend to your hotel in Lans en Vercors. ~ 5h
Day 7 Departure.
