The coastal region near Trieste gives a real flavour of the Adriatic. Then further west along the coast you will come to the resort of Lido di Jesolo, from where you have the opportunity to go across the Venetian Lagoon to explore either the heart of Venice itself or the islands of Burano and Murano, famous for its glassware. The cycling is along quiet country lanes and cycle paths, and your only encounters with traffic will be on short stretches in the towns.

Grade: The route is predominantly flat and is therefore graded as easy.

Getting There:
Fly to Treviso, Venice or Trieste then by taxi direct to Sesto al Reghena or train to Portogruaro then taxi to Sesto al Reghena.
Day 1 Arrive Sesto al Reghena.

Day 2 Sesto al Reghena to San Daniele.
To begin the holiday the route follows the flat plain of the River Tagliamento and passes the Villa Manin where, after Napoleon's defeat, Europe's boundaries were redrawn. ~ 37 miles

Day 3 San Daniele to Cividale.
Quiet lanes begin the day before giving way to the bustle of Udine with its numerous historic buildings and pavement cafes. It is then on to your overnight stop in the medieval town of Cividale. ~ 34 miles

Day 4 Cividale to Gorizia.
Leaving Cividale you enter the Collio wine region and a hillier landscape, similar to Tuscany. Your route takes you close to the frontier with Slovenia before reaching the border town of Gorizia. ~ 22 miles

Day 5 Gorizia to Trieste.
You leave Gorizia alongside the River Isonzo and then cycle through the nature reserve of Lago di Doberdo-Pietra Rossa before reaching the coast which you follow, cooled by the Adriatic breezes, all the way to Trieste. ~ 39 miles

Day 6 Latisana to Lido di Jesolo.
A rail transfer takes you back round the coast to Latisana. You rejoin the coast at the Caorle Lagoon but it is a different coastal landscape to that near Triest. Your destination for a two night stay is the seaside resort of Lido di Jesolo ~ 39 miles

Day 7 To Venice and back.
You can spend the day as you wish, possibly enjoying the golden sands of the Adriatic beach but most people head for the unique city of Venice by catching a bus and ferry across the Venetian Lagoon to Venice itself or one of the islands such as Murano, Burano or Torcello.

Day 8 Lido di Jesolo to Sesto al Reghena.
The coast is left behind as you make your way along river and canal banks and through medieval villages back to Sesto al Reghena. ~ 37 miles

Day 9 Departure.
