You start and end the tour in the picturesque lakeside town of Bled, a true fairytale town complete with castle overlooking a beautiful lake, which itself has an island with a church. The route takes you on a circular tour of this northern part of Slovenia and you are never far from the mountains, so the scenery is always spectacular. Despite being in the mountains, the cycling on most days is relatively easy, with only day 2 involving a pass, but you have all day to do it and traffic is light. A lift up can be arranged at an extra charge if required.
Grade: Moderate
Day 2 Bled to Ribcev Laz.
You begin with a bus transfer to the Pokljuka high plateau. The cycling is then mostly downhill a you descend into the stunningly prettty alpine valley of Bohinj. The verdant countryside and pretty villages make this a very special destination. ~ 22 miles
Day 3 Ribcev Laz to Skofja Loka.
Today is the longest day of cycling and it begins along level roads before a gentle climb up to the Jelovica high plateau, where you cross over a pass to reach the tiny village of Sorica, set in the heart of the hills. ~ 33 miles
Day 4 Skofja Loka to Preddvor.
There is plenty of downhill today as you leave the higher hills of the previous day. The village of Zelezniki and then the town of Kranj are interesting places to explore along the way. ~ 21 miles
Day 5 Preddvor to Radovljica.
Today's cycling is fairly easy with a few undulating sections. There is an interesting artisans museum in the village of Kropa and a beekeeping museum in Radovljica, where there is also a castle. ~ 25 miles
Day 6 Radovljica to Kranjska Gora.
Today you are riding towards the high mountains once more and the views are superb. The Julian Alps are home to Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia. The other prominent mountain range are the Karawanken, forming the frontier with Austria. ~ 31 miles
Day 7 Kranjska Gora to Bled.
You descend the Radovna valley with the mountains surrounding you. The dense forests are peaceful, interrupted though by the fast flowing rivers, such as the one in the Krma Valley that descends from the Triglav National Park. Before long you find yourself in the picturesque and familiar setting of Lake Bled. ~ 28 miles
