South of Chamonix and east of Grenoble, the Haute Maurienne is perhaps best known to skiers, as the area includes resorts such as Tignes and Courcheval. Butting up to the Italian border, it is an area of stunning mountains, crystal clear lakes, pine forests and alpine valleys. The Region is vast and unspoiled, with traditional alpine villages, abundant wildlife and an artistic tradition dating back to the Middle Ages.
Grade: There are two or three walking routes on offer each day so the grading is easy to moderate. To do the longer route every day you would need to be fairly fit.
Train via Paris to Modane or fly to Chambery or Geneva then train to Modane. From Modane by bus or taxi to Bramans.
