We are offering the route as a complete walk of 80 days or you can break it into chunks to suit yourself and spread it over as many months or years as you like. This holiday is not a road walk, nor does it take you in a direct line from end to end. Instead, our chosen route follows many National Trails and recreational footpaths, including the South West Coast Path, Cotswold Way, Severn Way, Staffordshire Way, Limestone Way, Pennine Way, St. Cuthbert's Way, Southern Upland Way, West Highland Way and Great Glen Way. Of course there has to be some road walking, but we have kept that to a minimum, sending you on footpaths and bridleways wherever possible. In doing so, the route takes you through the fantastically varied countryside that is the essence of Britain.

Grade: Difficult

Meals:
You will normally be staying in a town or village where there is at least one place to buy an evening meal. On the rare occasion that this is not possible, we will book you into an accommodation which provides an evening meal (this is not included in the holiday price). Lunches can usually be bought on route and we can advise you of the days when this is not possible. On these days you can book a packed lunch from your accommodation by letting them know the night before or we can book it for you. These usually cost about £5. Alternatively, most of the towns and villages in which you stay have shops where you can buy items to make up your own packed lunch.

When to Go:
You need to start relatively early in the season with this holiday so that you finish your 80 days of walking before the clock change at the end of October. Our first customers to walk this route, Carol and Hagan James from Cambridgeshire, started the last week in April and enjoyed seeing the surrounding countryside come to life and the wild flowers and blossom at their best. July and August tend to be the warmest months, but it is rarely so warm as to be uncomfortable for walking. September tends to be one of the most pleasant times in the countryside and is quieter as most people with children have finished their holidays. By October the days are getting shorter and the weather is much more changeable.

Getting There:
By Car: Detailed route plans can be provided on request.
By Air: The nearest airport is Plymouth City Airport from where you will need to take a train to Penzance. From Penzance there is an hourly bus service (not on Sundays) to Land's End or you could make the 9 mile journey by taxi.
By Rail: There is a regular service from London Paddington to Penzance. From Penzance there is an hourly bus service (not on Sundays) to Land's End or you could make the 9 mile journey by taxi.

Departure:
Your final night's accommodation is in Thurso, which has a limited rail service (about 4 trains a day) to Inverness and Edinburgh from where there are regular trains to London Kings Cross or links to other areas of the UK. Alternatively you can travel by train from Thurso to Wick airport (4 trains a day) from where there are flights to Aberdeen and Edinburgh Airports.
