The Algarve has one of the most picturesque coastal landscapes in Europe. The route follows the coast and then heads inland to pass through typical Portuguese towns, villages and unspoilt countryside.
Basic Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Faro
Day 2 Faro to Vila Real
Day 3 Vila Real to Tavira ~ 28 miles
Day 4 Tavira to Sao Bras ~ 25 miles
Day 5 Sao Bras to Silves ~ 31 miles
Day 6 Silves to Sagres ~ 34 or 44 miles
Day 7 Sagres to Lagos then transfer to Faro ~ 22 miles
Day 8 Departure

Starting and ending in easily accessible Faro, with its pleasant old town and harbour, a short rail transfer on your first morning takes you to the charming border town of Vila Real on the Rio Guadiana estuary. At first following the lovely Algarve coast, the route then heads inland to pass through numerous typical Portuguese towns and villages and unspoilt countryside. At the most westerly point the route arrives at Cape Sao Vicente lighthouse from where you follow the beautiful coastline again as far as Lagos.

Day 2 Faro to Vila Real.
You transfer to Vila Real, a town on the banks of the Rio Guadiana, which is the border with Spain. There is plenty of time for you to have a local cycle ride.
Day 3 Vila Real to Tavira. ~ 28 miles
Day 4 Tavira to Sao Bras. ~ 25 miles
Day 5 Sao Bras to Silves. ~ 31 miles
Day 6 Silves to Sagres. ~ 34 or 44 miles
Day 7 Sagres to Lagos.
Today you cycle to Lagos from where you will be transferred to Faro. ~ 22 miles
Day 8 Departure.
