Located at the northern end of Coniston Water, this charming village is an excellent base for a walking holiday away from the hustle and bustle. You can take a steady walk to Brantwood, the lakeside house of Nineteenth Century reformer and critic John Ruskin for coffee and sticky toffee pudding (a traditional Cumbrian sweet) and return on the steam ferry. Alternatively, visit beautiful Tarn Hows, or walk to the charming little nearby town of Hawkshead with its associations with Beatrix Potter. Coniston village is dominated by one of the highest fells in the Lake District, Coniston Old Man and walking to its summit is another amongst several options. There are several pubs and a couple of restaurants to meet most tastes, and a handful of shops. Coniston is the traditional Lake District, peaceful and surrounded by unspoilt and stunning scenery accessible from the doorstep of your accommodation.
