Environmental Policy
At Discovery Travel we are very aware of the potential environmental impact which conducting our business can have. We are making every effort to reduce and minimise this impact and wish to be as transparent as possible in our activities.By their very nature, walking and cycling holidays are, compared to most other forms of tourism, low impact, but even so we are not complacent.
How We Reduce Our Environmental Impact
Benefiting Local Economies
1.The accommodations which we use are virtually all locally owned and run (the few exceptions are used when there is no local alternative).
2.Luggage and other transfers are provided by local suppliers
3.Most of our accommodations are in villages and small towns in rural communities. Not only is the cost of the accommodation brought into the local economy, but also the additional spending by clients on eg evening meals, lunches, drinks etc.
Travel
4.We encourage clients to travel to and from their holidays by the most environmentally friendly means and provide details of public transport options where these exist.
5.We are making donations to the charity The Woodland Trust to raise money to plant trees in one of their woods. This guarantees that, unlike many other schemes, the trees will survive indefinitely. We offer clients flying to one of our holidays the opportunity to donate the cost of planting one (short haul flights) or two tees (long haul) should they wish to do so. Other clients are naturally welcome to contribute also.
Office
6.We only use paper which is recycled or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved.
7.We recycle all our paper waste and other waste so far as is possible.
8.We make every effort to use the minimum amount of materials such as paper in the first place.
9.We use low energy light bulbs where suitable fittings exist.
